Is The Wii-U A Little Pricey?

The Q4 debut for Nintendo Wii U signals the coming of the next-gen consoles and the final hurrah for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – before the debut of their replacements next year, at least. Is it a time to maximise userbase, slashing prices and recouping the investment through software sales? Or alternatively, should the platform holders play it safe and keep prices high? Initial indicators seem to suggest that it’s the latter strategy that is being pursued, provoking some level of...

Astronomers Discover Brighest Supernova

The brightest exploding star ever seen with the naked eye in recorded history apparently experienced a quick and lonely death, a new study reveals. The discovery, which centered on a star explosion witnessed in the year 1006, suggests that many similar outbursts leave no companion star to accompany their demise. The most powerful exploding stars in the universeare supernovas, which are bright enough to momentarily outshine their entire galaxies. One type of star explosion, known as a Type 1a supernova,...

Angry Birds Maker To Launch New Game,Bad Piggies

Angry Birds-maker Rovio Entertainment will be hoping to prove it’s no one-hit wonder when it launches Bad Piggies on Thursday, just as players seem to be tiring of the game they’ve been addicted to for the past three years. The new game will feature pigs which strike back at the birds who attacked them with slingshots in Angry Birds. A hit on app stores would give the Finnish company a boost as it looks to a possible stock market flotation next year. Some analysts put its market value...

Astronomers Find Cosmic Seagull

A huge cloud of gas that looks like the head of a seagull shines brightly in a gorgeous new picture snapped by a telescope in Chile. The photo, taken by a telescope at the European Southern Observatory’s La Silla Observatory, shows the head portion of the Seagull Nebula. The cloud of gas spotlighted in the image glows intensely due to radiation blasted out by a hot young star at its heart, scientists said. Like other nebulas, the Seagull is a stellar nursery — an enormous cloud of dust, hydrogen,...

German Court Hints It May Lift Ban On Samsung’s Galaxy Tab

Apple could be close to losing the bans on sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab it has won in German courts. If the Dusseldorf lower regional court were to rule today, Samsung would be unlikely to be found infringing on Apple’s design rights, which would overturn earlier rulings that halted sales of Galaxy tablets, a court spokesman said on Tuesday. Apple is seeking a permanent sales ban on the Galaxy 7.7, 8.9, 10.1, 10.1N and 10.1V in Germany because it claims Samsung infringes on its design rights,...
